Projects & Case Studies
Thames Enterprise Park
Thames Enterprise Park is transforming the former Coryton oil refinery in Essex into a sustainable manufacturing, logistics, and energy hub. IDM’s strategic insights helped secure planning approval, shaping the project to create over 12,000 jobs and £3.5 billion in economic value over the next decade.
Harwell Site Expansion
An analysis of business and innovation activity around Harwell Science Campus identified the North East quadrant as the optimal location for a new development site. The majority of relevant businesses and innovation outputs are clustered in this area, with strong growth forecasts, making it a highly viable option for future expansion.
Opportunity Identification
We analyzed UK Government infrastructure investment in a region, identifying key areas for transformation and investment opportunities. This helped our client develop a long-term strategy based on future growth in housing, retail, and industry sectors.
Healthy Ageing Village
We provided evidence for a business case to develop a knowledge and healthcare zone between Lancaster University and the city. Our data-driven analysis identified a focus on healthy ageing as the best fit for stakeholder goals, recommending a mix of housing, NHS services, and improved transport to support the project’s vision.
Oxford Road Development Options Analysis
We identified three key industries—Transport Technologies, Energy Technologies, and Internet of Things—for a site on Oxford Road. These sectors, backed by strong research and local businesses, present promising opportunities for growth and investment.
Job Vacancies Analytics
We created an automated Jobs Vacancies Dashboard using Machine Learning to classify over a million UK job adverts with 99% accuracy. The dashboard offers real-time insights into local hiring trends, skills gaps, and employer activity, helping clients assess regional demand and gain competitive intelligence.
Research Collaboration in Life Sciences
We analyzed collaboration within Life Science clusters in the Northwest, Oxford, and Cambridge. Cambridge showed the highest collaboration, followed by Oxford and the Northwest, despite the latter receiving the most funding. This highlights that strong collaboration, not just funding, is key to a successful cluster.
Highlighting Excellence
We assisted a UK research funder and a global FMCG company in identifying workforce and skill attributes in the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Growth Engine. Analyzing 50 indicators from 2 million records, we mapped business clusters and innovation hotspots, helping the clients shortlist areas for manufacturing investments.
Large-Scale Research Opportunity Analysis
IDM helped the University of Manchester and the University of Liverpool identify collaboration opportunities in life and clinical sciences. Analyzing over 100,000 records, we guided a £4M research budget and identified four key areas—Mental Health, Pharmacology, Paediatric Medicine, and Ophthalmology—along with a genetics theme to enhance their national standing.
Mapping Innovation in LEPs
We developed a framework to map innovation across England's 39 Local Enterprise Partnerships for the UK Government’s Department of Business, Industry and Science. Analyzing over 70 datasets on investment, education, and skills, the report identified each LEP's strengths and received ministerial approval for release.
Northern Growth Development Zone
We reviewed business and innovation activity in the Northern Growth Development Zone (NGDZ) to establish a baseline model and growth forecast for the HS2 project. Our analysis used advanced forecasting methods to compare local and national growth, identifying key sectors for targeted development and supporting infrastructure-related growth in the NGDZ.
